Ironically, finding “your own” voice is hard…
…or maybe it is just me.
I am just over 200 days into my project of posting one article and one short video five times a week for a year. For those of you who don’t want to bother doing the math yourself, a full year would be 260 times.
So I am almost to the end.
In some areas, I’m definitely seeing improvement.
I no longer break out into a cold sweat like a scared teenager asking the prettiest girl at school out on a date (or at least I hear that is what happened… I never had the guts to try that) when I have to record a video.
Now I am more like a scared 25-year-old who opens up Tinder and is afraid to swipe left… or is it right? Really, I’m so old now that Tinder did not exist when I was single, and I don’t know which one is good or bad.
Do I love to do it?
No. But I feel about the same way about it now as I do about brushing my teeth… kind of neutral, and I know it is good for me.
When I started, it would take me longer to come up with an idea for a post or practice a script to read from a teleprompter for a video than it would be to actually do it.
Both of those things are true anymore.
I find I come up with more article and video ideas per day than I can write, and I’m able to wing short videos now with just 2–3 bullet points to keep my ADHD in check.
But, despite all of that, I still don’t feel like I have found my voice yet.
For my writing, I think I am closer. At least if you are reading the FB version (I use AI to shorten my posts for other platforms since I don’t have time to rewrite them for every place I post).
But for my videos… it still does not look like me.
I still feel cold, with none of my amazing humor (at least in my own mind).
For now, I’ll continue to write and hope that that is the next breakthrough that comes out…
…but if anybody knows a shortcut to bringing out your own voice in your content, please comment below!
(See, I learned to play to the algorithm… kind of). 🙂
