At the top of the highest mountain sits a mighty dragon.

Its scales shine like gold in the morning light.  Its roar can be heard from every corner of the land.  

It breathes fire that lights up the night like a new star being born.

Every year, new adventurers train beyond the point of exhaustion to defeat the monster.

They are sure it is the key to their future and that it is guarding a treasure that will turn paupers into kings.

There’s one big problem.

The dragon is a distraction.  It is not guarding any treasure.  It’s just making a big show to draw attention to itself, but it is all a show.

In entrepreneurship, we face the same thing.

There are people whom we see all over social media and the news and try to emulate.  We think that they are the keepers of the greatest treasures in life.  Their social media shows nothing but glamor and success.

Once you look behind the curtain, you’ll find that their “treasure” is not what you think it is.

What is worse is that, one day, after years of toil and sacrifice, you may defeat the dragon…

.. only to find it is not even the treasure you want.
