People act too successful too soon.
I’ve seen the Fake it till you make it TED Talk. I like it. I even accept that the science behind it is true.
The problem is that, like most things, people take it too far.
Faking confidence when you don’t have it can help.
Faking success when you don’t have it can lead to very bad life choices.
I’ve seen this play out in tons of scenarios and across cultures. Whether it’s an entrepreneur at a conference in the US pretending to be more successful than he is, an influencer in France taking photos in front of a rented Ferrari and Airbnb mansion, or a family member of mine in the Philippines dressing in designer clothes (even though the shoes cost several weeks’ salary).
I’ve seen it happen.
But I’ve never seen it end well.
I’ve never seen an entrepreneur who fakes success actually become successful.
But I have seen the opposite.
Successful businesspeople who dress in regular clothes, who don’t brag about their wins… they keep growing.
This is why I don’t like posting on social media.
I’d much rather be in my cave (aka office) working.
So why am I doing it?
I promise it’s not to become famous. The introvert in me cringes at the thought.
It’s not, believe it or not, even for likes, follows, or to sell things (though if that happens, I won’t complain).
My goal for posting every weekday for a year (and giving myself grace if I miss a few) is simple: to find my voice.
To compose my thoughts.
To become a better writer.
I’m about 100 days into this, and the main thing I’ve learned is that writing is hard.
Turning thoughts into something coherent is hard.
That’s why my posts are all over the place.
That’s why (even though I know I should be sticking to one niche) don’t.
For now, that’s not the point.
I build online schools. (See? I’m doing what the gurus told me and staying “on brand.”)
But let’s be real… if all I wrote about was that, you’d probably stop reading. And honestly, I’d stop writing.
So I’ll keep showing up. Not to fake anything. Just to figure things out as I go.
