Misplaced Consistency

Consistency is a good thing… until it isn’t.

We’re told to be consistent. In our habits. In our branding. In our teaching. In our business systems.

But what no one tells you is this: consistency in the wrong direction doesn’t make you disciplined… it makes you stuck.

This is one of the silent killers of online schools. Both on the business side and the education side. You don’t even notice it at first. It hides behind productivity. Behind structure. Behind routine.

You’re showing up. You’re doing the work. You’re checking the boxes.

But if those boxes are part of a broken system… all you’re doing is reinforcing something that doesn’t work.

Let’s talk about it.

First, what is misplaced consistency?

It’s when you stay loyal to the method instead of the mission.

It’s when you continue running Facebook ads because that’s what you’ve always done, even though your best students now come from referrals.

It’s when you keep using the same onboarding sequence because it’s automated, even though it doesn’t actually get new students engaged.

It’s when you stick with a curriculum that looks beautiful but isn’t producing results, just because you spent 100 hours building it.

It’s comfort disguised as commitment.

Now let’s look at the business side

In a Productized Education business, misplaced consistency often shows up in your operations and growth strategies.

Like when you:

  • Keep posting on Instagram because you have a content calendar for it… even though 90% of your leads come from your email list
  • Follow the same script on every consult call, even though your ideal student has changed and what they care about has shifted
  • Stick with old affiliates because of past loyalty, even though they aren’t bringing in new traffic or leads

You’re being consistent. But not with the outcome. You’re optimizing habits instead of results.

In Productized Education, we want scalable systems. But not stagnant ones. Systems should evolve. Your tech stack, your sales process, your messaging… they all need to change as your business does.

Sticking with old tools or old strategies just because they’re comfortable is one of the fastest ways to stall.

Now zoom in on the education side

Educators get stuck too.

You deliver the same live class every week, even though students stop showing up halfway through the program.

You assign the same worksheets because they “cover everything,” but students still don’t retain what they learned.

You refuse to switch platforms even though your students struggle to access the material.

You’re teaching the content… but not reaching the student.

And Productized Education isn’t about content. It’s about transformation.

You’re selling clarity, connection, and accountability. You’re selling the outcome. Not the slides. Not the course portal. Not the video player.

If your students are different than they were 6 months ago, but your teaching hasn’t changed, that’s misplaced consistency. And whether you meant it or not, that makes the program about you… not them.

Here’s how to fix it using the PE Pathfinder

We use the PE Pathfinder Framework to re-align your consistency with what actually matters.

Start with Clarity.

Are you 100% clear on where your students are trying to go? How your business is trying to grow? What the next step is?

If not, you’re probably just staying busy. And consistency without clarity is like sharpening a sword you’ll never use.

Then think about Connection.

If students stop showing up, it’s easy to assume they’re lazy. But sometimes… it’s us.

Your audience may have changed. Their expectations, habits, or needs might be different now.

So ask yourself:

  • Are you adjusting how you teach based on real feedback?
  • Are you maintaining meaningful teacher-student connection?
  • Are students still connected to their goal and to each other?

If the answer is no, then it’s time to shift what you’re being consistent with.

Last is Accountability.

The myth is that consistency means never stopping. But accountability isn’t about showing up for the sake of showing up. It’s about forward motion.

A student who logs in every week but never applies what they learn isn’t consistent… they’re stuck.

An entrepreneur who checks their dashboards daily but never makes a change isn’t consistent… they’re scared.

You need systems that keep people moving forward. That includes you.

Here’s the bottom line

There’s a saying in martial arts:

“Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.”

But even that can be dangerous. Because “perfect” is just what you’ve decided works.

So don’t get trapped by it.

Don’t let your calendar, your checklist, or your course portal become your prison.

Yes, be consistent. But be consistent in your adaptability. Be consistent with your outcome. Be consistent with your students.

Everything else is negotiable.

The future of education is not static content. It’s living systems. It’s teacher-led transformation powered by feedback, iteration, and real human connection.

That’s what Productized Education is really about.

Not just showing up.

But showing up for the right thing.
