How Much Time Did You Spend on Somebody Else’s Dream Today?

How much time did you spend on somebody else’s dream today?

Work. TV. Video games. Meetings that should have been emails. It all adds up, doesn’t it?
If you stop and think about it, most of our days are built around things that don’t actually belong to us. We spend our best hours helping someone else’s company grow, watching someone else’s stories unfold, or cheering on someone else’s victories from the sidelines.

There’s nothing wrong with that… not entirely. Work puts food on the table. TV helps us switch off for a bit.

Games, sports, distractions… they fill the silence that might otherwise remind us something’s missing.
But deep down, maybe you’ve felt it too. That quiet thought that comes when you’re stuck in traffic or staring at your inbox on a Monday morning. There has to be more than this.

You’ve been working for a decade or more. You’ve built skills, solved problems, managed people, and learned lessons the hard way. You’ve got stories to tell that no book or podcast could ever capture.
But most of that knowledge is sitting quietly inside you, used only to meet quarterly goals or make sure the next project doesn’t crash.

What if that experience could do more than keep a company running? What if it could actually change someone else’s life?
You don’t need to quit your job tomorrow or start preaching on the internet. But imagine sharing what you know in a way that helps others grow… teaching, mentoring, guiding.

Maybe it’s helping young professionals in your field avoid the mistakes you made. Maybe it’s helping people start where you once started, lost, and looking for direction.

Teaching what you know online isn’t just about money (though yes, it can make money). It’s about building something that’s yours. Something that lives beyond the next paycheck or the next Netflix episode.

I’m not talking about becoming some “influencer.” I mean something quieter, more grounded. Building a corner of the internet that reflects you… your ideas, your experience, your voice. The kind of thing that makes you feel like the hours you spend working actually belong to your dream.

Because the truth is, your skills are already valuable. You’ve earned them through years of doing, failing, fixing, and doing again. The only thing left is to decide if they’re going to keep serving someone else’s dream… or start building yours.

So ask yourself tonight, when you turn off the lights:
How much time did I spend today on somebody else’s dream?
And how much am I willing to give to my own?
