Most online educators are measuring the wrong CAC.
Not Customer Acquisition Cost.
I’m talking about the CAC Factor:
Clarity
Accountability
Connection
If your online school isn’t growing like it should…
If students drop off halfway through…
If nobody’s referring their friends…
You’re missing one or more of these.
Let me break it down.
CAC = Clarity + Accountability + Connection
These 3 ingredients determine whether your students finish your program, transform their lives, and rave about it, or quietly ghost you after Module 2.
Here’s what each one means:
Clarity = “Where am I going? How do I get there?”
If your students don’t know EXACTLY what the outcome is and the steps to reach it, they won’t finish.
They’ll get overwhelmed.
They’ll lose interest.
They’ll drop off.
What’s the outcome?
Why does it matter to them?
What’s the roadmap?
If you can’t answer those, your students definitely can’t.
Clarity Score (0–10):
0 = I don’t know what I bought
5 = I kinda get it, but it’s fuzzy
10 = I know exactly where I’m going and how
Accountability = “How do I stay on track?”
People don’t fail because they’re lazy.
They fail because they get busy, distracted, or stuck and nobody notices.
That’s where accountability comes in.
You need systems, not just content:
Regular check-ins
Progress tracking
Clear next steps
Community nudges
Coaching support
Even small nudges make a big difference.
Accountability Score (0–10):
0 = Pure self-paced chaos
5 = Occasional reminders, but no follow-up
10 = If I slip, someone helps me get back on track
Connection = “Am I in this alone?”
This one is the most underrated.
People don’t finish programs because the videos were good.
They finish because they felt seen, heard, and supported.
Connection comes in 3 forms:
- Student to Teacher
- Student to Outcome
- Student to Community
Are YOU visible and accessible?
Do they care about the goal?
Do they feel like they’re part of something?
This is what AI courses cannot replace.
Connection Score (0–10):
0 = Just me and some pre-recorded videos
5 = Some group calls, but no real bond
10 = I feel like I’m on a team, not alone
Now, Score Your Program
Add up your scores:
Clarity + Accountability + Connection = Your CAC Factor Score
Max score = 30
Your score tells you how much transformation and value your program creates.
See the table in the image to see how you’re doing.
Example:
You have a cohort course.
Clarity: 8
Accountability: 6
Connection: 5
Total CAC Score = 19
That’s decent, but not great.
You might be undercharging or seeing drop-off mid-program.
With a few small changes, like a better roadmap, weekly check-ins, and stronger community support, you could bump it to 24 or higher and justify doubling your price.
This is how you scale without burnout.
Here’s Your Next Move
Pick ONE product in your business.
Then ask:
How can I make the outcome and path clearer? (Clarity)
How can I make it easier to stay on track? (Accountability)
How can I create deeper emotional and social bonds? (Connection)
Even a plus one in each category will change your business.
More completions.
More testimonials.
More referrals.
More profit.
This is the flywheel of Productized Education.
Final Thought
People don’t pay for information anymore.
They pay for:
Clarity, because time is short
Accountability, because life gets in the way
Connection, because nobody wants to grow alone
Get your CAC Factor right.
And your students will win.
Your business will grow.
And you’ll finally build the scalable, repeatable, life-changing online school you’ve always wanted.
