It’s my birthday today…
..and as I cross what’s probably the mid-point in my life (assuming I don’t figure out how to live forever first), I’ve been thinking more about what I’m doing with the time I have left.
You hear people ask, “Would you die for what you believe in?” It’s a powerful question, but honestly, it’s not the one that’s been on my mind.
The question that’s been echoing in my head lately is quieter, but somehow heavier:
Am I willing to live for it?
And if I’m honest… am I even doing that right now?
Most of us spend decades building careers, climbing ladders, collecting titles, and crossing off goals that we thought would make us feel fulfilled. But somewhere along the way, we wake up and realize we’ve been moving so fast that we never stopped to ask if we’re headed in the right direction.
I’m proud of what I’ve done. You probably are too. You’ve built skills. You’ve learned things that most people couldn’t pick up from a YouTube video or a quick online course. You’ve seen how the real world works, with all its messiness and contradictions. That kind of knowledge (earned through experience) is rare. And yet, most of it stays trapped inside us. Used only for the next project, the next report, the next year’s goals.
But what if that knowledge could actually outlive the job title attached to it?
What if the next part of life isn’t about chasing success, but passing on meaning?
About teaching what you know to people who are still figuring things out?
Not in a classroom, not necessarily even in person, but in the way that fits your life… online, from anywhere, sharing what you’ve learned the hard way so someone else’s path might be a little easier.
You don’t have to make it a big production. It could start small. Write about what you’ve learned. Record a short video. Help one person get unstuck. Then see what happens.
Because there’s something deeply human about teaching. It’s one of the few ways we can make time move slower… when what you know starts shaping someone else’s life, a part of you keeps living in their story.
Maybe that’s what I’ve been circling around today. I’ve spent a good part of my life doing. Now I want to spend the rest sharing.
So I’ll keep asking myself that question, and maybe you should too:
Am I living for what I believe in… or just getting through the day?
And if not now, when?
